ABOUT...

Troy Township is a wonderful community to live, work, and play in. Troy Township is located in northern Ashland County, Ohio, which is often referred to as "The Heart of Ohio". Troy Township is 15 square miles of rural paradise. Geographically, the township is 3 miles across by 5 miles up and down, with a rectangular shape.

Topographically, Troy Township lies on the St. Lawrence Seaway Divide, which is one of the four continental divides that run across North America. North of the St. Lawrence Seaway Divide, water drains towards Lake Erie and eventually flows into the St. Lawrence Seaway. While South of the Divide, the water flows towards the Ohio River and on down to the Gulf of Mexico.

Today, Troy Township consists of over 1,190 residents and approximately 19.58 miles of Township roads. Located at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 224 and Ohio State Route 511, the town of Nova (Latin for the word 'NEW') is the center of our universe.

HISTORY...

Originally surveyed in 1806, Troy Township was heavily forested and abundant in game. Troy Township was organized in 1835 and became one of the 15 townships to form Ashland County on February 24th, 1846. Many of the early inhabitants were pioneers, farmers, and skilled craftsmen.

One day in 1835, when these pioneers met to name the Township and elect officers, no one could agree upon a name for the community. Nathaniel Clark, who always had a sense of humor, said "Name it after my dog, Troy," who was Nathaniel's old brindle dog laying at his feet. The pioneers agreed to this and so came the name Troy Township.
